      Hi, All:

Happy Weekend. I hope everyone gets vaccines soon. It is a bit frustrating to have them so close and yet so hard to get.

NS: I don't consider the booze everywhere a temptation, but I do stay vigilant. That's why I "work" my sobriety by staying connected to sober people daily (here) and talking about what is going on in my sober mind. Sometimes I can glorify the good old days and staying connected here is what keeps me grounded in reality. I know having booze around the house doesn't work for everyone, but so far so good here. I do think my husband drinks too much, especially during the pandemic, but I have 25 years to prove that what I think doesn't really matter in his behavior so I will let that one go. He definitely isn't one of us, I just don't think his consumption level is healthy.

It is a beautiful weekend here. I look forward to relaxing and getting outside.

      Happy SOBER Saturday,
      Pav

        Good evening Nesters,

Starting to get chilly again as predicted but no rain or snow thank goodness
Didn’t know what I wanted to do with today’s sourdough discard so I put it in a chocolate cake, haha! My clothes will never fit me!!!

Hi to Wags & Pav & everyone stopping by tonight.
Wishing a safe night in the nest for all!

          evening nesters

well a quiet weekend, stayed at home and didnt do much. My iron has gone up by 5 to 10 and no offer of a tranfusion so have doubled my iron tablets. blood pressure seems to be low but doesnt explain the tiredness so going to get hormones checked. Never ending and i am the healthiest i have been ever so who knows.

I dont cook with wine and never have, was too busy drinking it to waste it in a recipe!

we are behind in our vaccines but that was a given really, promise us the world and then oops. I'm not in a hurry as i am pretty careful when i go out and mask wearing is still compulsory in most places. It is cooling down so will be interesting to see if our cases rise again or not.

Not much news otherwise, getting cooler and darker earlier now. im hopeful i wont be back at work this winter, too cold to go far.

          take care xx

            Happy Un Hung Sunday everyone.

I think it would be pretty easy to slip back into drinking if we don't keep our sobriety top of mind. I find at this point that I find myself thinking "I could have just one". Seriously? If it was that easy I would not have started posting here back in 2006 when I was desperate to control my drinking but did not want to quit. For me quitting was the only answer.

it is getting warmer and sunnier here Ava, thank goodness. Its all uphill from here, yippee!

I was listening to a Psychologist on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) this morning and she was saying that when we want to make a change we should not think of 'taking away', instead think of as 'adding'. So instead of saying I am not going to eat bread anymore, say "I am going to add more vegetables to my diet".
So on that note, I am going to eat more veggies today and go for another walk

Have a good one everybody and drink more water- lol

Hiya Nesters! 15" of snow here, and the blizzard continues all day! We are about to snowshoe out our door and whap the heavy snow off the trees. It's a big event here!

PAV, I have the small crappy bottles or cartons of red and white wine in my pantry too - for stews and cioppino and picatta. It's not a big deal for me after 3 years. But I do find that I don't want to look at them all the time, so I make sure they are not in my line of sight. It's not what I need to be looking at when I'm stressed or tired or hungry or hot, and then come across that frosty bottle in the fridge. Out of sight - out of mind most of the time. But I couldn't do that early on.

LAV, my GF sourdough did not work for me. But we DID make GF/DF/SF/CF chocolate cake balls with a melted DF chocolate glaze and potato chip topping yesterday. Amazing. I have joked that I would like to open a "healthy" food truck when I retire, so I can share all the good recipes I've been forced to find!

Ava, sorry to hear about your iron levels. Take care of yourself!

Narily, I love your comment about "adding". Not being able to eat gluten, dairy, soy or corn has felt very limiting to me. But focusing on what I CAN eat opened up a whole new world! Chocolate, here I come!

I hope you all have a good, sober day. I appreciate sobriety more all the time!

                Sunday evening greetings Nesters,

Very windy but sunny here & not as cold as I expected. I’ve been out for a few short walks, trying to exercise but not damage my feet any further. Every retired nurse I know has messed up feer haha!

Ava, glad your iron level is improving but they really need to get to the source of the issue. No wonder you’re so tired, geez.
You are tiptoeing into winter as we are begging for spring here. Take good care

Narilly, I learned that tip years ago, it’s part of my gratitude mentality. We aren’t missing a thing except possible/probable complications down the road. I gave up drinking & smoking nearly 12 years ago & I haven’t missed a damn thing I didn’t want to quit either when I first came here in 2009 but found out pretty quickly that I just HAD to quit. Grateful I did too

Kensho, sorry about the sourdough. You can always try again sometime in the future. In the meantime it looks like you’re doing pretty well in the creative department, nice
Sorry about the snow, I saw some pics on TV today, wow!!!

Hello to the rest of the crew & wishing everyone a safe night in the nest!

Nar and Lav - love the idea of thinking about "adding to" instead of giving up or losing something. I think I've come across (and probably used) a similar idea many times but seeing it here just added new clarity.

Kensho - yikes on the snow! I hope you're able to enjoy it and that it doesn't cause too many problems.

Had a pretty quiet weekend here My wife got her first vax dose today, with no side effects so far except for a sore arm. Our pup continues to struggle more than usual and we've had to add a new antibiotic to the regime since a small spot in one lung hasn't cleared yet. Her underlying condition has gotten much more difficult to manage in the past year or so. As the primary person who cares for her, this is part of my near-exhaustion. We're going to see a specialist in late April (can't get in any sooner) and I'm hopeful she'll have some suggestions that aren't too expensive to implement. In the meantime I'm handling it just like sobriety -- one day at a time.

Take care everyone and happy new weeks to you all!

                    Hi, All

Wags, so sorry. Caretaking is so stressful and tiring. I hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

Extremely windy here right now, and we got a little more rain. Every little bit helps.

I baked the unhealthy way yesterday - lots of dairy, sugar and gluten. We ended up with a delicious cake and I don't even really like cake. My son likes to cook/bake, so we did it together which was fun.

Not much to add. I am gratefully unhung on this day that seems to be missing an hour!

                      Happy Un Hung Monday everyone!

I am making breakfast for hubby right now, he goes back to work today.

I had a case yesterday who works at a school. She was SO upset that she was positive and worked while contagious. She had no symptoms on the day she worked so it was not her fault. That's what makes this disease so scary.

Cooking with your son sounds fun Lav. Even if you eat unhealthy because of it, the time you spend with him are precious.

Sorry about your pup Wags, it is stressful for sure. What a lucky dog to have such a caring owner.

Ken, it is warming up here and no snow for now. Weird that you have snow and not me.

                      Sourdough Lav, yum!

Hey, have a great day everyone.

                      Don't drink today.

Hi Nest! It's a sunny melty day here! It snowed 23" at my house. Drifts made the driveway only about 18" to shovel. It about killed me - I was soaking wet in sweat when I came in! I did the borders and my husband did the snowblower. Slow progress!

Wags, I'm sorry you furry loved on is struggling. It is so hard. You are such a loving mama!

PAV, I like baking with my son too. Such a nice way to connect with a young man!

We head down to AZ Friday - the land of 85 degrees and sun and cactus. It's always a very relaxing time, so I'm excited. They all drink, but I have kids to spend evening time with, so I'll be ok. I've been down there 3 times without drinking, and it works fine.

                        Hang in there everyone!

AZ sounds good to me, too! My feet have been cold for 3 months. Your baked goodies look delicious! Will they ship? Ehehe.
Wags, I hope your dog turns the corner soon. It’s awful to have a poorly pup. Hugs to your baby, hope the antibiotics help. Thank you so much for that website. I have signed up! Thank you!

Just got back from dropping my car off at the dealer for an early morning appointment for inspection, oil change, etc. I always feel naked when I don’t have my car, haha! I refuse to drive my husband’s pickup, it’s much bigger than the old ones were.

Wags, I sure hope the new abx does the trick for your pup. Hang in there

Hi to Pav & Narilly. Baking with kids (even grown kids) is fun. I love how they try to replicate our cooking & baking too.

Kensho, wow on the snow total! Hopefully you will sleep well after all that!!

Byrdie, it will be getting hot before we know it since spring never seems to last very long anymore. Keep wearing those socks in the meantime

Byrdie - you're welcome for the website, and I hope it (or some other resource) helps you secure an appt soon. The good news is that most places schedule your second dose (if applicable) while you're there for your first dose, so once you've got your foot in that door you should be all set for the whole process.

Kensho - that's a LOT of snow! I know from experience that it's really beautiful and at least somewhat fun for a short amount of time, but then it becomes more of a hassle, a chore, or even a hazard. I hope you're able to travel safely later this week. Will you fly or drive? I'm sure 85 degrees F sounds pretty good right about now.

Nar - the case where the person worked without knowing they were contagious is a great example of why this virus is so hard to contain. I'm sure you must be hearing some really sad stories from the folks you're working with. I'm glad you all are contributing to the world's overall understanding of this and similar viruses.

Pav, Lav and everyone - thank you so much for your kind words and support around our pupper. Caregiving is indeed exhausting, whether for pet or for people. I will say though, having such responsibilities for our dog, for my dad, and sometimes for my wife are three really good reasons to stay sober.

                                Hi, All:

That snow looks daunting AND beautiful. It has been cold, windy and somewhat rainy here also - March is supposed to come in like a lion and leave like a lamb - waiting for that little baaa to show up.

Nar - it must be so stressful to have your husband go away for those extended periods of time. I know you're used to it by now, but it can't be easy. Those asymptomatic cases are why we're all wearing masks and staying distant, right? So weird that wearing a mask to protect others has become political. What a world we live in.

Honestly, Wags, you said it. How could you be drinking and take care of what you need to. Thank goodness we're sober!

Not much to report. I think I slept HARD in one position because when I woke up I was so stiff and in pain like I hadn't moved all night. I did a little hip opener yoga this morning and am ready to go.

                                Happy SOBER Tuesday,
