Ginger, that's really sad about the missing person who tried to cross deep water. A little common sense would have saved his life.
Dill, I didn't realize that in the past your son was addicted to prescription drugs. I'm so glad that he was able to get help and is staying clean.
Sounds like everyone has a plan for staying sober this Thanksgiving. Mr. J and I are staying home for the holiday so resisting temptation shouldn't be a problem.
Waves to all!

Ginger, I'm glad my day with gdaughter evoked sweet memories for you. She is our first and only granddaughter, so she is very special to me. No, her mother is not in her life. It is a sad story of addiction that started with prescription pain pills for both of them (son and DIL), and even though she tried several times to go through rehab, she just couldn't seize that golden ring. She had mental health issues beyond just the addiction as well. It is heart-wrenching to this day if I allow myself to dwell on it. My son was also addicted and at the same time. It was awful. He came to me one day and came clean and said he needed to be able to go to a rehab if he was going to have any hope at all. It was a long road for all of us, and to be honest, I don't know if we ever get off of it. But we are so grateful for him and for his continued recovery.
Rava, I have never seen the croissant bread at our Aldi's but I'll keep an eye out. And I'm sure you'll enjoy Thanksgiving much more without wine pulling you off balance! Stay strong. I have no real desire to drink on family holiday's anymore. I have had enough of them to know they are a very positive experience, much more enjoyable than if I have booze available. My battle remains the nasty pull of drinking by myself at home. There's nothing social about my drinking anymore.
Cowboy, It's really hard to find a small turkey so I got right on it when they first put them out. I think they go fast! In the past we have tried going with just a turkey breast but Mr. D really misses the drumsticks when we do that.
Jude, not takiing any cats home would definitely be hard! How is Peanut doing? (I'm not sure if that's the right name.)
Think I'll make the cranberry sauce today. Tomorrow, the pumpkin pie!
24 for all of us here, please and thank you.

The man is still missing. The search continues this morning. It is now a recovery mission, not rescue. They were out jeeping and thought they could make it across.
So avoidable.
ABC, good plan on the doors. You're ready when the weather is.
Jude, when I volunteered at our humane society, I struggled with wanting to take the critters home every time I worked. You're strong!
No booze for our t-day. Only two of our group embib so we will be in good company.
Hi to everyone on this fine Tuesday! I'll take another day of freedom.

Sounds like you might get off easy with just a bit of snow Jude, I don't mind shoveling a few inches unless it's the heavy wet kind, then it starts to get like work lol.
I'm sure you'll all enjoy that turkey dinner without the wine Rava, nothing better than a "turkey with all the trimmings" meal!
I think that's about the size of turkey we always buy as well dill, enough for a good meal with lots of leftovers.
Any trace of that fellow yet Ginger? Makes you wonder why anyone would try crossing a fast flowing stream unless it was very shallow and not too wide. I'm sure I'll get a day or two of good enough weather to change the doors, at least they are here and I'm ready to go when that happens.
I ran into Edmonton yesterday and picked up the parts for my customer's boiler, so that's my job for today, get the boiler repaired so his garage and basement in-floor heat is up and running again.

Good morning Cafe. Jude lake effect snow would shut down our town up north. 1 or two inches makes school late or closed. LOL. Off to volunteer job today at the thrift store. Ginger, I hope they find that man but it sounds like his fate might already be sealed. Sad for sure. I have got all my Thanksgiving food for Thursday but the wine. None will be bought. My brain has gone back and forth with it but I am settling on NONE is best. We are only having 1 daughter for dinner who doesn't really drink so there is no excuse for me to buy booze for her. Although my brain says “it’s a holiday, you can have some.” Biggest lie in history. I will stick with Diet Coke with my turkey. Hi to everyone today. 24 more for us all please and thank you!

Ginger, the volunteer job is going well. We are still short on help, but there's nothing that I can do about it so I just put my head down and work a little harder. Yesterday we had two people doing community service which helped a lot. Unfortunately most of them are short term but any help that we can get is appreciated. The hardest part of the job is trying not to take any cats home with me!
We're in for some lake effect snow for Thursday night and Friday, but it should be minor with only a few inches expected. Things could be a lot worse.
Waves to all and I hope that everyone has a great day!

Rava, there are monsoons and occasional micro-bursts here. Every season one or two people are lost trying to cross flooding washes. They are searching right now for a man who tried to cross one. It never ends well.
Thank you for your encouragement about the knee. Im just being a baby.
Dill, your mall story brings back such fond memories with my oldest granddaughter. We still talk about those days and she's turning 31 in January! That's such a wonderful bonding time. I can't recall, is your granddaughter's mom around?
Jude, how is the volunteer job going?
ABC, do you think you'll have a weather window to install the garage door or will it have to wait until spring now? I'm happy to see my Canadian friends returning. Many had said they might skip this year with our border issues but they chanced it and it was easy peasy. The media had blown things up they said. Imagine that! Lol
Well, headed to exercise. Im still moving, such as it is.
I'll take another day of freedom!

Monday morning hello to everyone! Dill since you shop at Aldi just wondering if you have tried or seen the croissant loaf of fresh bread. It’s so good!! Anyway, another sunny day. No complaints here. Ginger, watching that surgery did you no favors. At least you know what you are in for and have a good doctor. I had no idea it rained in the desert. You might have to send a picture after the sun comes out. Cowboy you get a break from cooking now until next week. Hi to Jude and Mul. Hope everyone has a great and sober Monday.

Yes, Ginger, we ate a breakfast out! Grandaughter wanted me to try her new favorite place which is called Smoothie King. It was very good and she was very pleased. We shopped and then we went over to the nearby Mall and just looked around at things. She enjoyed the day, for sure. I can understand your anxiety over the upcoming surgery. But you really must go forward with it. You have a good doctor there it sounds like. You can do it!
Jude, I am always for the Quiet Holiday option! Enjoy!
Rava, we have a really small turkey this year. It's just 12 pounds, but will definitely be plenty as we will just have 5 of us here. We have an Aldi nearby and I really enjoy shopping there.
Cowboy, that was a lovely breakfast and well-plated! Thank you so much for taking such good care of the Cafe! We had our eggs here in real life done sunny-side up, with tomatoes and bacon on the side. Mr. D loves his bacon!
Waves, Mul!
It's a beautiful, sunny day here today. Not too many of those left for us in this waning year 2025!
Not today.

ABC, that's a perfect breakfast to me! I wish I had some fresh arugula and I'd replicate it this morning. Yummo!
I know I'm being a baby about this knee! When hubby had his, I watched the video of an actual surgery. I may have mentioned that here. It was a stupid thing to do because I keep playing it over in my head. What a dum-dum! This too shall pass.
It started raining about 4p and it is still raining. The desert will pop when the sun comes out. It's so beautiful here after a rain.
There's not much going on around here. Just chilling. Waves all! I'll take another day of freedom!
